The eco-masterplan is a comprehensive study compiling for the first time our knowledge about the biodiversity and ecological integrity of the Balkan Rivers, and pointing out which parts have to be left untouched. EuroNatur project leader Theresa Schiller and Cornelia Wieser representing our partner organisation RiverWatch presented the eco-masterplan to particularly interested Members of European Parliament on the 7th of March, 2019. They stressed the need for a complete transformation of the region’s energy policy – away from hydropower and towards really green energy sources, such as solar energy.

The list of speakers in addition to the representatives of the Blue Heart campaign included MEPs and locals of affected regions, who raised their concerns about the planned hydropower expansion. The event was organized by the European Parliamentary Group of the European United Left / Nordic Green Left (GUE/NGL).
