Old-growth forests destroyed rapidly in Romania
Although all primeval forests are strictly protected, they are still being destroyed - the most recent case was discovered in the Făgăraş Mountains. EuroNatur is calling on the Romanian government to immediately meet national and EU legal provisions by ensuring that all primeval forests in Romania be save from destruction.

Protest against KELAG dam construction on Huchen river
An international alliance of 200 kayakers, anglers, residents and nature conservationists on Saturday protested on the river Sana in Bosnia and Herzegovina against the hydropower plant “Medna”, which is currently under construction. Constructor is the Austrian-German energy company KELAG.

Balkan Green Belt to be greener
From 13th to 16th April 2016 50 participants from altogether 13 European countries met in Băile Herculane, Romania to strengthen the green spine of our continent. Central focus was the southernmost section of the most extensive biotope complex world-wide, the Balkan Green Belt.

Paddling against the dam tsunami
Today, about 150 paddler are opening the Balkan Rivers Tour on the Sava river in Slovenia. Led by former Slovenian Olympic athlete Rok Rozman, kayakers from all over Europe will paddle the most stunning and most threatened rivers in the Balkans over the next 35 days.

Most important wetland area of eastern Adriatic coast still under imminent threat
At the second International Conference on the Protection of Ulcinj Solana on 7 April 2016 in Podgorica, which was also attended by the ambassadors of Germany, France, and the USA, as well as the head of the Delegation of the European Union to Montenegro, EuroNatur questioned the Montenegrin government’s political will to protect this wetland area.

Europe’s last old-growth forests fall victim to clear-cutting
Many of the European Union’s last old-growth beach forests that survived until now, are growing in Romania. But week after week thousands of these trees are being cut down, both legally and illegally, and exported or sold to large timber companies. At this moment, the Romanian environmental NGO Agent Green reports deforestations in the Ţarcu Mountains.
