The proposals announced by the EU Commission on New Year’s Eve have now come into effect: nuclear and gas are, under certain circumstances, classified as “green investments”. What may sound like a bad joke is, in fact, not the first wrong turn European energy policy has taken.
At the end of last year, we already published a position paper, which illustrates how the EU can solve the crises of biodiversity and climate change at the same time. This position paper marked the beginning of our environmental campaign RED4Nature (RED stands for Renewable Energy Directive). In Brussels, we are campaigning for a new, sustainable way of energy consumption that leads away from nuclear power and fossil fuels, but, at the same time, shows also other ways than the continued expansion of hydropower or heating with wood.
In addition, we have started a blog about the RED4Nature campaign. Expressing strong opinions, our staff members for nature conservation policy focus on various forms of energy generation and check them for sustainability. Read the first two posts here:
